Trump administration discussing militarization of U.S.-Canada border

Nov 28, 2017
It's really not a bad idea for either Canada or US to enforce the borders being closed.
It's already enforced. Pretty much every road has a checkpoint, every lake has guards. I don't think you'll have people hiking in the wilderness to smuggle covid.

It's an escalation in increasingly damaged relations between the two countries. Laughably, America right now is the one that poses the health risk to Canada, not the other way around so I have no idea what Trump thinks militarizing the border will achieve. Everyone is fearful of travel to the US right now.

Maybe they need more people? I dunno Trump really likes having the military doing makework at the borders
There are less border crossings than there were now with the new restrictions.

This move makes zero sense other than pure posturing, Chrystia Freeland looked like she was struggling to hold back laughter when initially asked about it in her press conference today.

Why though? You're the epicenter not them!!! Have you seriously just pegged Canada as another scapegoat for your shit?

Yes, this makes absolute sense...... in a universe where doing something illogical means doing something logical.

No citizen of a country like Canada that actually has universal healthcare, proper law and order, and a better quality of life, would want to be in the US right now.

Although, Trump may not understand that this may lead to his soldiers trying to seek asylum for their families.

I can't think of another reason, unless you're going to come back with some conspiracy theory to overthrow Trudeau or whatevs
No it’s been mentioned already in this thread. I’m almost certain this is nothing more than to look tough and to pork up some funds for the weapons manufacturers. Trump does not give a rat’s ass about public safety. He doesn’t care about it domestically, and he sure as hell isn’t thinking about preventing an outbreak in Canada, which he then has to use troops to prevent from coming back into the US.

Trump probably sees the positive confirmed cases in the US as a high score, and doesn't want Canada to be a threat to his big numbers.

The worst part is that this is just Trump grasping at straws to try to do anything he can in order to appear like he's doing something useful. As much as he "wants the country open by Easter", I doubt he can override the state's governors. There's not a lot he can actually do at this point to appear "strong", so he's just doing a thing he can do because he can because he can't think of or do anything else/anything competent.

It's so hard to know. Is the coronavirus a big deal or not. One day it's, "will all be at church by easter". The next it's, "we are sending troops to the northern border".
It's just insanely stupid. But I guess it's entirely expected that Trump is a blatant hypocrite. "Everything's peachy, get back to work!" and "It's all those imaginary Canadians flocking to the U.S. that are the real threat!"

What the hell would this even do? What Canadian in their right mind would want to go to the US from Canada amid a pandemic with how splintered the handling of this virus is with our health care system? The US has growing epiccenters!

Hey Please

Not America
We need to build a wall
We do.

However, smart money would be to let the Americans build it for us. Given the rate at which so many of them are swayed by falsified information courtesy of Fox News, their beloved President and Social Media, having them believe that it'd be in their best interest to build a northern border wall and only they could build the "best wall" in the world wouldn't be the toughest sell given what I just saw of their beloved President's takes on the COVID-19 over the short span of a few weeks.

Just more of Trump's "foreigners are the problem and gross and they have cooties!" narrative he wants to gaslight.

Fuck that scum. Even the Devil doesn't want his ass in Hell.

Oct 25, 2017
Breh if anything Americans would want to go to Canada lol. Seems like they are doing a better job over there than trump is doing here.

God this man is a fucking idiot.

Nov 17, 2017
Trump wants to project the sense that the US is safer than other countries. So he wants to put troops on the border so his usual morons go "Good, he's keeping those Sick Canadians out, they definitely would have tried to escape Canada to come here."
I read this about 20 times and it never gets any less crazy sounding even though you're almost certainly 100% right

Trump supporters are going to be right behind this....But dissapointed if they learn that the majority of Canadians are white.
I think if they see Canada's lower infection and death rates, they'll jump to the "logical" conclusion that we stole their ventilators and medication because Superior Privatized Medicine was required to supplement our Socialist Dystopian Hell Medical Infrastructure.

Trump trying to project the problem on another country again. Always.
Trump trying to say to his base : We protect you, strong borders!!!

The problem is inside your country you dumbfuck
