Shenmue III appeals to the fans who asked fot the game for years while the IP was in total limbo. If it had any mainstream relevance, you wouldn't need a Kickstarter in the first place. It did what it was supposed to in that sense. If there are some people who hyped the game back in 2015 while knowing nothing about the franchise, that's on them.

Ring Fit Adventure shipments are expected to start rising from next week.

If Sony wants to avoid a complete sales disaster they have to announce some heavy discounts for holidays very soon.

But that's because people hated the original battle system, it was the biggest issue of the series.

And L5 evolved the game in many ways. It looks really good but it sold like shit. Pokemon sells a ton but looks like a 3DS game running on Citra. That's one of the reason why people were mad at GF too.
Except it doesn’t look like a 3DS game, and it runs way better than whatever YK4 thought was acceptable. Even Digital Foundry says it’s a whole generational leap from Sun and Moon despite its shortcomings, it’s time to let these hyperbolic statements behind.

Can't say I agree with the take on Sword and Shield, but I will say that L5's problem was, is, and will continue to be their late start on fixing the problem and their failure to keep their IP's momentum going in the interim of fixing it. And when the fix did occur, they kept delaying it, which caused further problems with upholding the momentum of their cross-media, which continued the drop in popularity and prominence it had in the first place.

YW4 was a game that was good and sent Yokai Watch forward, reused battle system or not, but on the onset clearly still wasn't ready, and the environment it would release in wouldn't give back the strength it had 5 years ago. 4++ is paying the price for that as well. A staggered improved release and even the additional platform would've worked for Yokai Watch a few years back, but clearly hasn't helped now, because of how 4 was handled.

And at the end of the day you really can't compare it with Pokemon. There's a reason why Game Freak can release something like Sword and Shield while similar to Yokai Watch 4 in that it was perfectly fine game that could have really used more time in the oven, could still sell millions in under a day despite its problems. Because Pokemon never stopped, Pokemon never stopped being media. They've kept a high retention of consumers and fans every year and their revenue is very consistent while their games launch into an ecosystem created to help lift its sales and the sales of the media around it. Level 5 never attempted that sort of synergy with Yokai Watch after their botched worldwide push, and it cost them.

I guess if there is some kind of discount for PS4, it will start the 12th of December. Same day Sakura Wars releases.

And with that Cyber Monday sale it went from having 0 PS4 hardware SKUs in the Amazon top 50 to now there being 16 PS4 hardware SKUs in the Amazon top 50, lol. Of course, with only one retailer and only 3 days it doesn't mean much overall.
Just shows there's demand out there for a cheaper ps4. All of them appear to be sold out on amazon too.

By that metric alone PS4 should easily win the week as the best selling standalone console.

Uh, no. It shows that Sony can't even supply a single retailer for the short 3 day sale that they had. Not sure where that sarcastic reply came from but ya missed the point entirely.

Will Famitsu track, or at least estimate all of these Amazon.jp PS4 deals?
I guess if there is a considerable increase means they are. 10-12k would be the normal increase I guess.
If Sony didn't back up Amazon for this deal it should be a very limited shipment for the specific PS4 bundles and I don't think any other retailer ran something similar this week.

One of the best adverts Sony ever came up with was advertising a big game release and a hardware revision and a price drop.

Sony's showing this Christmas is frankly embarrassing by comparison.

I mean of course unless Sony is the one organising the deal that was always going to happen. Black Friday is for clearing out excess stock. Clearly the retailer accurately gauged the necessary price required to clear out it's excess stock.

Y'all are more obsessed with PS4 sales performance this holiday season than Sony.

It's dead and next year will be worse. Don't be too shook comes 2020.

YKW4 looks OK in stills, but it has performance issues that Sword and Shield don’t even have nightmares about. That game runs like garbage.

Yeah, im surprised that 6 years in people are still ripping Sony for the PS4s performance.

You play the hand you’re dealt, Nintendo has a better hand than Sony and Sony has a better hand than MS.

No, prior to "Currently unavailable" the message was "in stock on December 17". There wouldn't be that message if they're just pushing out current inventory.

If PS4 doesn't get a holiday deal then the race between Switch Lite and PS4 combined LTD YTD is getting more interesting!

I mean that's exactly what would happen, they're ordering in new stock. Probably not a large amount unless Sony actually plans on running a major deal. I'm not talking about them clearing out all PS4 stock and never selling the console again I'm talking about excess stock, stock that's been on their shelves a long time that they never managed to get rid of.

I do wonder about the lopsidedness of the versions if GF will think more carefully about the themes of the next games. Iirc I don’t remember Pokemon games being this lopsided before or maybe I’m misremembering wrong.

Or maybe they don’t care 🤷‍♀️

Looking at all the hype surrounding KH3 right now... I guess it's harder to greenlight an exclusive Kingdom Hearts game for Switch than 3DS. Going full HD is probably the biggest thing keeping those major franchises off of Switch. The budgets probably wouldn't be too far of the PS4 versions. Almost 3 years and 50 million units in and your Capcoms and Squares aren't even phased. Enix will probably be present with DQM and Omega Force probably dragged Atlus kicking and screaming to Switch with Sramble. Yakuza studio and From don't care. If I were Nintendo I'd be looking into focusing the efforts of young talent to making similar games with a Nintendo spin.

Switch games are just too expensive to produce to justify third-party handheld exclusives like in the DS and 3DS days. Either Switch gets included with the other consoles or it has to settle for old ports or nothing at all.

unless Nintendo was paying for it, or paying for it's promotion like Octopath, making an exclusive game doesn't make much sense imo.
the next DQM will presumably be PS4/NSW (with a chance at PC?). hopefully it's 2020...

it can be multiplat, and nintendo would still pay for its promotion. see DQB2, nintendo published and marketed the switch version.

If PS4 doesn't get a holiday deal then the race between Switch Lite and PS4 combined LTD YTD is getting more interesting!
Man you’re right, that would make it interesting.

I can’t see Sony not doing a holiday deal of some kind, though. The numbers right now are downright terrible.

I don't see Sony doing anything since they seemed to have all but given up for the year. Probably won't do anything until TLOU2 and FF7. I mean, their big game for Holidays, Death Stranding, died on the charts despite its strong opening.

If third parties can afford to make PS4 exclusives(with a later PC port in the west) they can do the same for Switch.

I count 7 3rd party Switch exclusives in the top 30.

The exclusive age for high budget titles has died if there isn't strong moneyhat behind.

Since when Atlus develops high budget titles...?
Do you honestly think all those years of development time come cheap? Regardless of the end product there's no way the games Atlus develops that have notable large development times are low or mid tier cost for the company. They may not be as expensive as the top tier budget Japanese games but they will cost the company a pretty penny.

I mean of course unless Sony is the one organising the deal that was always going to happen. Black Friday is for clearing out excess stock. Clearly the retailer accurately gauged the necessary price required to clear out it's excess stock.
Doesnt pretty much every system get a deal on Black Friday regardless if its a hot item or not?

Normally the manufacturer themselves set the deals or the retailer sets a specific deal on an item to get people through the door so that they may buy other stuff (those items are normally the ones marketed). The vast majority of deals on Black Friday are stock clearance however, that's the purpose black Friday serves in the retail calendar. Now in Japan where the retailer takes all the risk they're not going to be inclined to put items on sale with any notably large discount to purely drive high sales volume (as it means they're just taking loses). Thus the most like reason for the sale is excess stock clearance.

Wait we still haven't a holiday deal announced? Only way this makes sense is if Sony is selling all they can produce WW already.

Why on earn would that be happening unless they substantially reduced PS4 production in the past year. It'll probably come monday if not they probably stopped caring about squeezing out more sales of the PS4 in Japan and are hoping the PS5 release will kill it off and absorb quickly any residual sales but I'm still expecting a deal.

Hopefully they announce one tomorrow or Tuesday to start next weekend.

Fair enough. And its also true that Black Friday is also used to clear stock as you mention. I'm not sure if Amazon has an abundance of PS4 in stock however since the PS4 has been selling fairly steadly (weekly numbers) for a while now. I think they would have ordered new stock accordingly over the last year or so. Unless they had a huge stockpile from maybe 1+ year ago or so, or if the PS4 has been selling poorly for a while on Amazon compared to other retailers. But who knows.

First day Sell-through {2019.12.05}

[NSW] [PS4] Yo-kai Watch 4++ <RPG> (Level 5) (¥6.480) - 20%

[PS4] Onechanbara Origin <Simple 2000 Series Vol.061: The Onechanbara \ Simple 2000 Series Vol.090: The Onechanbara 2> <ACT> (D3Publisher) (¥7.980) - 20%

[PS4] Citadel: Forged with Fire <RPG> (Spike Chunsoft) (¥6.800) - 40%

[PS4] The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan <ADV> (Bandai Namco Games) (¥3.200) - 20%
Damn. Hope they localize Onechanbara anyway.
Wonder what is the sell through per platform for Yo-kai.
You might actually want to look at gameplay. It looks way worse than Z2 Chaos.

Z2 Chaos:

Onechanbara Origin:
The remake looks way better with that new artstyle though... Z2 was a cheap game in an artstyle that already looked too old at the time of release.

I mean, I have met Slayers fans who have told me that they think Slayers Try looks better than Slayers Revolution, so that opinion does not surprise me. We'll see how Japan thinks. I'm guessing they see through this shitty game and it absolutely falls on its face and doesn't come close to Z2.
