I'd like to get a gaming-capable laptop that minimizes "gamer" aesthetic, is fairly portable -- preferably with a 13inch form factor though 15 is acceptable -- that can run the PC version of Final Fantasy XIV at 1080p 60fps on medium or high graphics preset. I also want the audio to be good, or at least well-balanced in its quality versus fan noises that might kick in after sustained play.

Does such a machine exist right now? I know FFXIV isn't even close to being a high-end, benchmark game, but it's the only game I actually want to play on the go -- I otherwise want the laptop to be my daily driver for super basic media consumption and super basic productivity tasks.

I'm standing by to see how the Surface Laptop 3 15in Ryzen 7 config goes, but I do worry that it's a bit too thin and light to do sustained thermals -- even for lighter-end games like FFXIV. XIV can push some pretty intense scenarios as an MMORPG, though, with some specific scenarios having a ton of players on screen or a lot of special effects going off at once.
What's your budget? The Lenovo Legion Y740 is well regarded and lacks an overt gamer design.

Well you would have to install WIndows either from a disc or USB drive, if you aren't cloning. Your passwords will be saved in your Google/Firefox profile if you are talking about for websites and such.

You'll need to make sure you have the essential drivers you need like Wi-Fi.

It won't be a plug and play process.

A little offtopic rant:
So ebay really fucked me, a guy purchased my 1070 laptop, had it for almost 2 months (in total) and requested to return (3 weeks after receiving it), it saying the ram speed is not as described and the machine "broken" for being too loud, he opened a case and asked for £120 refund (which i refused, i offered £70 to avoid issues), he took a month to reply, and escalated the case for no reason on the last possible day, so in total he was 2 months with my laptop and now i need to pay for the return for "not as described".

So now i wasted like £50 in tracked collections and the guy used the laptop for 2 months for free..., i will never sell anything on ebay above £10 again.

Yeah eBay from when I was selling things on there in the 90s and 2000s to now has become a total shit show for sellers, especially with electronics.

There's no freaking way a person should have electronic merchandise for that long and still be able to open a dispute.

And I'm sure the story will go that eBay and Paypal completely stonewall you and 100% just take the buyer's word. Pray to your deity he doesn't send you a brick.

Seems pretty solid to assuming throttling isn’t too bad in that model. I think you might save 5%-10% by waiting until BF.

Going to stick with current I5/1060 until next gen, Tho I would like recommendation on a next gen laptop, I dont need top of the line, but something that would play next gen at 1080 laptop screen 13-15in. SSD I'd imagine will be big.

A 2060 for ~$1100? With the 1660 Ti laptops in existence, I wouldn't at all expect 2060 laptops to dip into the $900-$1000 range.

Never happened.

So you aren't looking to buy until the consoles drop? In that case I would wait until we get an idea of when the RTX 3000 laptops are dropping.

All laptops are coming with NVMe SSDs now, so that won't be an issue.

I work at a public library and we are wanting to get a gaming laptop so we can do VR on the go. What's the best gaming laptop under $3K? I had an eye on the New 15" Razer with a 2080, but there may be something else y'all can recommend.

Yes, we are getting a fleet of Quests as well. But we are wanting to do premium experiences that we can monitor and guide folks through - either with an Index or a Vive Pro + Wireless Adapter. Plus, we intend to build a collection of photogrammetry VR experiences for public use, and that would need us to have a traditional VRsolution.

I think there is a decent chance we see a 2060 laptop for $1000 on BF. Along with 1660ti models at $900. For example Costco is already advertising a Dell at $1100 with a 2060 and 512GB ssd. A cheaper brand and retailer could hit that $1000 mark in the very near future.

I’m not saying wait, but if that $100 matters to you, it might be worth it.

How are max-q 2070/2080 seen?
The 2070 Max-Q isn't a bad buy depending on the price, the 2080 Max-Q is a bad value through and through almost always.

Do you really need a laptop as thin/light/expensive as the Razer, with a gimped 2080 to accomplish your goals?

But where do 1650 and 1660 Ti machines then go on the sliding scale? Profit margins are still slim.

I'm not at all saying you are wrong, mind, I'm just forecasting. If a person can wait three weeks, sure why not.

Black Friday last year was surprisingly disappointing on the laptop front.

My guesses would be 1650 - $800, 1660 super - $850, 1660ti - $900, 2060 - $1000.

The strange this is I don’t really recommend jumping on any of these unless you really need one, and you research throttling on the model you are thinking about.

I am such a damned moron. I on occasion hook up my laptop to my 4k tv to game. Only today did I hit windows+p to use my tv as an external monitor and not have it be displaying on my laptop screen AND the tv. Also unlocking double framerate + samsung game mode (v sync off now in game settings since i think game mode handles that?) And no tearing where before i had some. (DMC5 as an example)

I really feel dumb. Not to mention the extra leg work i put my laptop through before. And i can actually play in 4k and not 1080p! A whole new world!

Windows + P second screen only folks!

There is someone I know that had a 144 Hz screen and had it at 60 Hz on Windows for a while.

Soooo.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So this is my target this month if I can't find anything better

9750
2060
1080 17''

for 1199.

I am also looking for 2070's but it seems to be a 300 dollar price increase. Can anyone say if that price is worth it? I run a 9900k/2080ti for my desktop, I like having high-end parts, but only if its worth it

Looking for a low/mid range entry level laptop. Something I will mostly use to play FFXIV on business trips, plus the usual movie streaming stuff.

This one caught my eye, and I am so far out of the Laptop game, I could really use some advice.

If anyone has other suggestions, they would be welcome. The specs on that Acer seem quite nice for the price. Hard Drive space is a bit small, but it's got a 2nd NVMe slot, and a standard slot for upgrading. I do wish it had a 17" screen, but it seems I'd be sacrificing a lot of hardware to get a 17" screen and stay at that price ($1100 there is pretty much my ceiling).

Hi guys, I need your help.

I don't know a lot about processors and graphic cards so I need your help to find the best quality/price laptop for me.

I'm on a tight budget, so I want to find one for around 800€. 900€ would be the maximum. I want a laptop for gaming. Mostly to play games like The Witcher 2/3 or FFXV at 60fps on low/medium resolution. If I can do better than that it's also okay :P

So first question, is it possible on my budget ?
Secondly, I already did some digging and found these these :

- Asus TUF705DT-AU041T 17,3" : AMD Ryzen 5 3550H / Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 4Gb / 1Tb HDD / 128 Gb SSD. 899€
- Asus FX570ZD-E4141 15,6" : AMD Quad Core R5 2500U / Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 / 1Tb HDD / 256 Gb SSD. 799€
- HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk0034nf : Inter Core i5-9300H / Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 / 256 gb SSD. 899€.
- HP OMEN 15-dc0044nf : Intel Core i5-8300H / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti / 1Tb HDD / 128 Gb SSD. 829€
- HP Pavilion 15-cx0031nf : Intel Core i5-8300H / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3 Go / 1Tb HDD / 128 Gb SSD. 829€.

What do you guys think ? What are the most important things I should look ? Do you have better suggestions ?

I also saw this Asus and that Lenovo but I think they're not worth it.

Thanks a lot guys !

Packing such a strong desktop, I would see the 2060 as more complimentary. The 2060 to 2070 performance delta is pretty much the same as it is on the desktop side. I can't judge if that is worth the price difference for you.

Some take issue with the rpm of the GPU fan, but it's a good machine.

I would buy the one I left here. By far the best combination, despite missing a harddrive.

edit: wait, I just nticed it doesn't come with Windows. If that's an Issue you should instead buy THIS one.

Quoting myself, i just got the laptop back.. everything seems fine, a little dusty..
I lost almost ~£40 in shipping... 2 months and half later after i sold it.

Now not sure if i should pay the £35 to PCSpecialist so they can check it up and see if it really overheats or not, but the bastard had it for more than 2 months and got his full refund and made me pay for the shipping etc.

I'm not selling anything higher than £10 on ebay ever again...
His reason for returning was "it overheats, and the ram speed is not as described", ebay never question anything and send me emails saying to refund him asap to keep him happy and wait for my item to be returned meanwhile as if it were something that cost £1.., not freaking £650!!
I still didn't refund him, i'll wait for ebay to make it expire and the system to take the money automatically, it's frozen on paypal since the day I sold it anyway.

Nah don't pay out any more money at this point. Just run a program like HWMonitor and run some benchmarks or games, the temps will be self evident.

Got a Razer Blade 15.

i7 9750H, RTX 2070 Max-Q, 16GB RAM, 512 SSD, 240Hz 1080p screen.

Everything going smoothly with setup so far, but what kind of apps/programs should I download for performance monitoring? RivaTuner is still the go-to? Haven't had a gaming PC in a few years.

So the laptop seams to heat a lot, not sure how to know if it's overheat.
but i just noticed that the fuck** swaped the charger.., he put an older and pseudo broken brick.

Mine was 11.8A, he returned a 9.2A :( which makes a really high pitch noise.

Complain to eBay. Don’t let it go.
I did, and reported him..
But ebay told me to "sell more and offer 30 days free returns to become a top seller and be more protected".. can you believe that reply?
So basically i'm screwed, and i'll need to buy a new charger, which in PCSpecialist cost £65 :(, because the one he send is too small in W for this laptop.

I don't want to sell anything eve on again above £10.
Or maybe not use paypal, not sure how it works without paypal.

I'm in the market for a laptop that can handle games well while dabbling a bit in video editing. Best Buy is doing some Black Friday sales pricing on this MSI Stealth and I'd like to ask if y'all thought it is worth the $1400.

15.6" Laptop
Core i7 i7-9750H
GeForce RTX 2060 6GB
32GB DDR4 SDRAM
512GB SSD

My budget is $1200-$1500 and this looks better than what I thought I'd find at the price. Thank you for any input.

This is what I have my eyes on currently:

Leveno Legion Y740 81UH0001US
$1,579.99

Intel Core i7-9750H (2.60GHz, up to 4.50GHz with Turbo Boost, 6 Cores, 12MB Cache)

15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) NVIDIA® G-SYNC, 144 Hz, 500 nits, Dolby Vision HDR400

16GB RAM

1TB 7200 RPM

NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX™ 2070 with Max-Q 8 GB

256GB Solid State Drive, M.2, PCIe-NVMe

Seems a tad pricey, but I like the 500 nit display with HDR, g-sync, and very capable GPU. Still a bit higher priced, but I think if it dropped $300 or so on Black Friday it'd be a pretty good grab.

This looks really nice, too. I've been reading reviews for the MSI I posted and have come across recommendations for the Y740 as an alternative. I'm also keeping tabs on the Costco deal zerocalories posted.

I tried selling my laptop a while back and even made a thread about it. I had insane amount of scammers trying to buy the laptop. If I left the offer option on, I was getting messages every hour or so. And then ebay contacts me a day later that it was compromised account for every single account that reached out to me. I actually gave up on it. Decided to just keep using my laptop instead of dealing with a headache. I sold some of my switch games on there and didn't have issues. So it seems that ebay scammers tend to target expensive items.

I'm pretty much going to order this today, I don't think its going to get much better, it does come with a 256m.2 to hold you over until you get a better drive

edit: 100 off coupon does not work

This looks really nice, too. I've been reading reviews for the MSI I posted and have come across recommendations for the Y740 as an alternative. I'm also keeping tabs on the Costco deal zerocalories posted.
I'm going to go with the 740 because of the build quality and gsync. I love gsync. I'm not sure since, but i think the msi gs65 has an upsidedown mobo which is hard to upgrade on

That's what I've read from reviews that it's inverted. I'm leaning towards the Y740 as well and just waiting for BF to hit for any deals.
